About me.......
I am a dog owner. I am not a vet or other "expert". Our
Chocolate Lab, Casey, was diagnosed with severe hip dysplasia at 7
months old. She was just a pup, and to say I was devastated would
be an understatement. When we replaced one of her hips at the age
of 16
months, I really wished I had someone to talk to that had been through
this surgery. What exactly should I expect? What
exactly should I do? Somehow, confine her for three months was
not enough info. So we did what we thought best as it came
up....like most dog owners do. It was a very intense time.
Depending on your vet, you may get very detailed instructions, or very
little instructions. We had 13 sentences. I've found
out since that we got more instructions than many other people.
I wanted to tell Casey's story. Hip Dysplasia is a terrible
condition, but it is not a death sentence. In the process, I
asked other dog owners living with hip dysplasia if they'd share their
dog's story. Forty people agreed to help - and the result is "Dog
Owners Speak Out on Hip Dysplasia".
While writing the first book, people kept telling me we needed a book
on Knees! So, again, I started asking people to share their
stories and "Dog Owners Speak Out on Knees" was written. At that
time, I'd never seen a torn knee ligament. About 6 months later,
my mother's dog, Toby came up lame. I immediately knew what was
wrong with Toby. I also knew what my mother and Toby's options
were. From my personal perspective, the book was
tremendously helpful!
The books sold through this website
are to help you, another dog owner, know what your options are.
These are not all happy stories. Complications can and do happen
- there are always risks. Understanding these risks will help you
make the informed decision that your dog is counting on you to make.
